"Self love is an ocean and your heart is a vessel." -Beau Taplin

Coming from a girl who eats Chinese takeout every Sunday night without fail, I can't say I'm a professional at controlling salt intake when it comes to my diet. However, when it comes to skin care, the more salt, the better!

Being in salty air at the beach for the weekend inspired me to explore its natural benefits, and it turns out there are more benefits of salt on skin than there are K-named Kardashians.

Here are the three benefits that really caught my eye:

  1. Natural exfoliant. Salt gently rids your skin of dead skin cells and opens your pores for a deep cleanse.

  2. Absorbs toxins. NaCl is a major combatant for acne-causing bacteria which, in turn, reduces blemishes. Its moisture-reducing abilities regulate oil production, so if you have oily skin, salt can get rid of clogged pores.

  3. Improves circulation. When used as a scrub, salt relieves dry, itchy skin during winter months which keeps your skin looking young. It's cellulite's worst enemy which makes it our new best friend.

Spring Break is in the very near future with dull skin not catching an invite, so I decided to try out a salt scrub and I was very pleased with the results! Here's my step-by-step guide to a three-ingredient scrub that'll have your skin feeling moisturized and rejuvenated in just minutes.

Ingredients:

  • 1/4 cup of natural sea salt

  • 1/2 cup of olive oil or softened coconut oil

  • 10 drops of your favorite essential oil (optional)

Instructions:

  • Mix together sea salt and olive oil in a bowl until its consistency is pasty

  • Add 10 drops of your preferred essential oil (I used my favorite $8 tea tree oil from Whole Foods)

  • Apply to skin with a loofah or wash cloth, scrubbing gently in circular motions

  • Rinse with warm water

I targeted my elbows and knees as well as the back of my thighs to stimulate blood flow where I have cellulite. This scrub left my skin feeling moisturized and silky smooth with a hint of tea tree oil scent (my fave!).

Try it out for yourself and see what ya think! Happy scrubbing.

Xx,
